Many believe that gutters are a fairly recent invention. Gutters are a part of the well-known image of the American dream of a suburban house with blue shutters and a white picket fence. We build our homes for quality and durability. However, contrary to popular belief, the invention of gutters actually date all the way back to 1500 B.C. They were developed by a civilization known as the Harappan. What once was the Harappan is now known as Pakistan. Two strange things that are frequently found in gutters are children’s toys such as balls and frisbees, and earthworms. The toys obviously find there way into the gutters when caught by wind or thrown too high. The earthworms on the other hand are unexplainable. There are theories that they ride up with the birds and then reproduce, but no one can say for sure.
